Women in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, were on Thursday empowered with 1,650 transistor radios to monitor programmes on children’s’ health.
Inspiring Project gave the radio sets to the women in commemoration of the World Pneumonia Day.
Abdullahi Magama, the Programme Manager of ‘Inspiring Project’ undertaken by Save the Children, said the women who reside in rural areas, were given the items to enable them monitor information on pneumonia and other childhood diseases.
According to the official, the gesture was meant to improve their knowledge on effective ways of tackling childhood killer diseases in their respective communities.
In addition, Magama said the radio sets will assist in educating the rural households on preventive measures against pneumonia and other childhood diseases such as malaria, diarrhoea and immunization.
The radio will also enable the women to participate in the monthly interactive radio programme which is meant to engage the locals on health matters.
